Day 2top

After your quiescent evening in Barcelona and enjoying an appetizing breakfast, you will meet with our Gourmand Breaks expert guide who will discuss with you the personalized itinerary for your Romantic Spain tour. Apart from having available your Online Personal Travel Webpage, you will also receive a Personal Travel Journal with your day by day itinerary details, and plenty of suggestions for restaurants and free time activities. Our representative will also gladly introduce you to the Spanish history, traditions and Catalan Cuisine In addition, he will give you a free cell phone for the duration of your tour and you will be given a 24-hour Gourmand Breaks' telephone number available for any consultation or emergency that you may have.

Afterwards, accompanied by your guide, you will traverse the city on an exclusive gourmet walking tour through the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. You will start with a guided visit to La Boqueria market, Spain’s largest marketplace. La Boqueria is like a museum of the brightest, most curious and delectable foods Europe has to offer.
In any season you can lose yourself in this more than 800 year-old wonderland of fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood, baked goods and sweets arriving by sea or from the nearby fertile farmlands. But be warned: not only is it a kaleidoscope of colors, shapes and scents, it can also lead to tastebud overload. Your expert culinary guide will lead you through the maze of booths to visit those considered the best. You will sample some of their fresh seasonal local produce during a stop at one of La Boqueria's most famous bars for a tapa with perhaps chantrelle mushrooms, or fresh cockles, squid or maybe even scrambled eggs with wild asparagus. A glass of fine brut cava must surely accompany this traditional treat.

Continuing your walking tour through the Gothic quarter of Barcelona! Your journey will pass by a few architectural feats including the Gothic Santa Maria Church. The Gothic quarter is considered the heart of Barcelona and home to an abundance of tucked away gourmet cafes and shops. Our expert guide will amuse you with fascinating local stories and funny anecdotes.

You and your private tour guide will then visit a small prestigious delicatessen, specializing in local cheese, where you will taste their delicious specialties, whilst the shop owner tells you the secrets of the best Spanish cheeses.

Your gourmet walking tour will be rounded off by sampling Spain's exquisite and very best Iberic "bellota" hams, Joselito, 5 Jotas and other finest brands, accompanied by "pan con tomate", and paired with excellent local wines. You will learn why the acorn only fed free range Iberian pigs are called "olive trees with four legs" and how to distinguish a really good ham.

For the rest of the afternoon and evening you are free to either return to your hotel and relax or further investigate the mysteries of Barcelona!

Day 3top

After breakfast, you will meet your guide and spend a morning following the works of internationally renowned Spanish architect, Antoni Gaudi. Your private tour starts on the Passeig de Gracia with a visit to the famous Gaudi architectural masterpiece, La Pedrera, where you will marvel at the remarkable city view from the rooftops of this singular building. Then, your specialized guide will take you on a private visit to the astonishing unfinished church, la Sagrada Familia, the most representative design of the genial architect.

Once you have finished exploring the world of Gaudi you will return to your hotel, where a representative will be waiting for you with your Luxury Premium Rental Car, which will be fitted with GPS and will have automatic transmission. You will then depart for your new Romantic Spain tour seaside hotel in Calella de Palafrugell. The hotel has magnificent views of the coast and sea and you can take the opportunity to relax on your private terrace and enjoy the views of the Mediterranean or alternatively take a casual walk from Calella de Palafrugell to Llafranc. Your hotel will be on a half board basis and thus, you may wish to take lunch in the hotel restaurant after your drive. For the evening, may we suggest a wander around Calella and dinner in a romantic restaurant on the sea front.

Day 4top

After a delicious breakfast on the terrace of your hotel, you are free for the day and may we suggest you treat yourself to an optional morning of sailing with our very experienced skipper. Take in the sun and the sea on this Romantic Spain trip around the coast of the Costa Brava, acclaimed as the most beautiful coast in Spain! Following which you could visit the Medaeval villages of Pals or Peretallada. Pals is one of the best-preserved medieval villages in all of Spain and as you walk through the narrow village streets, next to the city walls, towers and churches, you will feel as though you have walked into a new era altogether. The stone archways, cobblestone streets and wrought balconies adorned with flowers create a welcoming feel in this Romanesque village. In the surrounding area are rich rice fields, where locals grow the key ingredient of their paella. You can take a brief tour of the oldest rice mill in all of Europe before perhaps visiting a lovely restaurant that is famous for its rice.

In the afternoon you may wish to return to your hotel and relax, or perhaps take a visit to Cap Roig Gardens Later, in the early evening, why not take a five minute drive to El Far Hotel and enjoy an apperitif before returning to your hotel for dinner in the restaurant.

Day 5top

This morning you will head to the Perelada Winery, where the house wine expert will await you and together you will make a complete visit to this famous cellar with a long tradition of wine making, which was commenced by the Carmelite monks in the 14th Century. Your visit will start with a stroll along the beautiful vineyards, then you will visit the modern cellar and learn about the wine making techinques; afterwards you will cross the lane to a 13th century Romanesque Castle, which is home to an ancient wine press - the Gran Claustre cava or Grand Cloister cava, which is the finest cava available at this vineyard, is a cava that is still fermented in the same location and with the same process used by the Carmelite monks of the 14th century at their monastery. This cava was selected in a blind tasting between the world’s finest champagnes to be served at the wedding in 2004 of the Spanish Prince Felipe. You will finish your visit with a taste of Perelada's best cavas, whites and reds, including of course Gran Claustre.

Your guide will join you at lunchtime, when you will be the special guest of a local Catalan chef at his modern, but still cozy, cooking school, just 15 min. drive from Perelada. You and your guide will join him for an afternoon of modern tapas, inspired by Dali, paella and wine in Catalan style! You will have the opportunity to participate in the chef’s preparations or, if you prefer, you can sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy his cooking from aperitif to dessert. Our chef appears frequently on local TV and has a charming personality, so feel free to ask him everything you would like to know about the Spanish cuisine!

To conclude this fifth day of your Romantic Spain tour, in the afternoon you will visit the Dali Theatre-Musuem in Figueres. The great artist purchased the museum building and personally oversaw its reconstruction and renovation. Now restored in a style appealing to Dali, it is home to some of his greatest works of surrealism.

Following your very busy day, you may wish to take a very relaxed dinner at your hotel and retire to bed early to prepare yourself for the coming day!

Day 6top

After a delightful break fast at your seaside hotel, the picturesque fishermen's village of Cadaques awaits you! The town is known for its breathtaking beauty and its history of famous Bohemian artists, including the master of surrealism, Salvador Dali. You will notice the laid-back and creative atmosphere lingering in this town from the long influence of artists. In a picturesque and secluded cove, you will visit Dali's summer seaside home. After a stroll on the seashore, lunch will be in a nearby restaurant that was a famed favorite haunt of the best artists of Dali's time. You will enjoy the excellent local cuisine in a cozy, intimate atmosphere steeped in the history of the area.

After lunch, we suggest crossing through the natural park of Cap de Creus to a lighthouse on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean. This point is the first place in Spain where the sun's rays shine every morning. But rather than waking up at dawn to see this, you may prefer to visit Cap de Creus for the impressive and romantic view of a beautiful Mediterranean sunset!

This evening is free to spend how you would like. We suggest a romantic evening walk along the beach and through the local town's seashore.
Of course you can also take advantage of your Romantic Spain Personal Travel Webpage, where you will have plenty of suggestions for moon-kissed terraces to have a drink afterwards.

Day 7top

Today on your Romantic Spain tour you have a morning to be free as air - wander around Calella de Palafrugell, take a romantic walk along the beach; toy with a coffee in any of the enchanting little cafe´s on the front or just relax at your hotel prior to leaving for Girona where you will meet your guide for your private guided visit of this incredible City, enchanted by stretches of cobblestone streets, the old Jewish Quarter and its luscious gardens, and the magnificent Girona Cathedral affording a great view of the area. You will wind through the narrow streets and stoned walls of the old Gothic Quarter and encounter little shops, cafes and medieval homes that families have passed down through the generations.

Dinner this evening will be at an exquisite 3-star Michelin restaurant owned by three local Catalan brothers. Local recipes are the inspiration for the exquisite dishes served here, from delectable parfaits to the most appreciated wild mushroom souffle. The enthusiasm and creativity of Chef Joan in his cooking is only matched by sommelier Josep's expertise at pairing the perfect wines with your dinner.
