Day 1top

You will commence your Self Drive Food & Wine tour with collection at the airport (or in Barcelona City) of your self-drive luxury vehicle, which will be fitted with GPS and will have automatic transmission and you will then transfer to the heart of the Spanish Priorat wine region. You will arrive at a charming and elegant hotel, which is a converted masia (country farmhouse), in a restful region of the countryside and complete with vineyards in the grounds. This evening we suggest you relax and get accustomed to your surroundings and enjoy a delicious dinner with wines in the hotel restaurant, which has magnificent views

Day 2top

This morning after a delicious breakfast, you will meet our Gourmand Breaks representative, who will hand to you the printed Personal Travel Journals for your private Spanish tour, with daily itinerary details and plenty of suggestions for restaurants and free time activities. All this information and more will also be available on your Online Personal Travel Webpage, which we prepare prior to commencement of your customized luxury food and wine tour.

You will then leave for a local winery which is one of the few in the Priorat which is surrounded by its own vineyards. This amphitheatre of vines covers 18 hectares and also part of the vineyard, is the barrel room, with its 300 oak barrels which is 3 metres underground, making it a truly spectacular place. The wines are produced under organic methods and have won prestigious accolades and qualifications by the US wine critic, Robert M. Parker, amongst others. The in-house bi-lingual wine specialist will walk you through the vineyards and you will have a chance to have all your questions answered! To continue, you will climb down from the vineyard into the barrel room, deep beneath the soil! To finalise your morning visit you will of course taste some of the best wines produced by this winery.

For lunch you will visit a beautiful masia run by two young chefs and enjoy a meal made from the finest fresh produce, served with wines of the area. According to the season, it may be possible to have a delicious picnic with wine in the vineyards, if preferred.

The particular family-owned wine cellar you will visit this afternoon has a long tradition of wine making dating from the XIX century. The present generation, formed by the husband and wife team, Burgos and Porta, has created this winery for the production of quality organic wines. It is located within the municipal boundaries of Poboleda at Mas Sinén, a stone building dating from the XVII century, surrounded by the family vines. These vines grow at an altitude of between 300-500m, cultivated in terraces and on slopes, with a total area of 15 hectares. The wine is produced under the control of the Consell Català de la Producció Agrària Ecològica (The Catalan Organically Grown Produce Council). Artisan methods have been used to produce these wines, though new technologies are also used to achieve a high-quality product. When you arrive the in-house expert will be there to greet you and to show you the finest vineyards, afterwards you will enjoy a personalized tasting of their top vintages.

After some time back at your hotel to rest and revitalize you will depart for Celler de L'Aspic Restaurant, where you will surely enjoy an amazing dinner paired with wines as the restaurant has an excellent reputation and Tony Bru, its owner and head chef, is renowned in the area.

Day 3top

After breathing in all the fresh Priorat air, you will have slept like a baby and this morning, after a good breakfast, your winery visits will continue. The particular family-owned Spanish wine cellar you will visit this morning in the heart of Priorat, was awarded one of Robert Parker’s highest ratings and he regards it as one of his favorite vineyards. Perhaps this will be one of your favorites too after a complete visit to their first class premises. The family has built their winery on the Mas D'En Bruno estate that was founded in 1270 and is one of the oldest in Priorat. Recognising an unusual combination of topography, soil and climate, a unique "terroir", and a one thousand year old wine-making tradition, they started a project to re-awaken the spirit of the old Carthusian oenologists, by rebuilding the steep, slatey terraces and replanting the vines. The old vineyard slopes were surveyed, the walls were repaired, the stones were cleared by hand, access paths were built. One of the family members will be there to attend you and share with you the secrets of their world class wine. Afterwards you will enjoy a personalized tasting of their top vintages.

Your gracious hosts at the vineyard and cellars also own a small restaurant in the heart of the nearby village. This is where you will round off your visit with delicious local cuisine paired with your newly discovered favorite Spanish wines.

Surely after this busy morning you will enjoy returning to your hotel and relaxing a little; take a dip in the pool, enjoy a massage or just take a siesta, the choice is yours. Tonight you will spend time relaxing over a magnificent farewell dinner paired with wines, at your hotel.

Day 4 top

This morning, after a lovely and lazy breakfast at your hotel, you will drive back to Barcelona and drop you car off either at the Airport or a designated Barcelona City rental office.
