You will start your vacation with airport collection and chauffeured transport to check-in to your 4-star traditional Spanish style hotel in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, conveniently located nearby to all major sights. Formerly, your hotel was the residence of a wealthy Duke in the city and is deep-seated in its history. A fruit and chocolate basket will be waiting in your room to welcome you! On this first evening in Barcelona you might want to relax and unwind after your journey and settle into your lovely hotel. We have several dinner recommendations for fine restaurants, as well as informal tapas places nearby.
This morning, you will meet your experienced bilingual chef for a visit to La Boqueria, Spain’s most influential marketplace, because it offers the freshest and most diverse selection of produce from all over Europe. During the tour of the market, you will sample a few of the offerings and, with the help of your chef, select the products that you will use in your cooking class. You and your chef will use only the finest ingredients from La Boqueria for a gourmet cooking lesson at a prestigious cooking school, to prepare your delicious 4-course Spanish meal. Sit back and relax with a glass of wine or tie on your apron to help. Either way, you will enjoy the chef's cooking from aperitif to dessert as you learn the secrets to traditional Spanish dishes such as seafood paella and Catalan creme.
After a sumptuous lunch, you will be met by your Official Licensed Guide and will leave for the Passeig de Gracia for a walking tour of the fanciful works of Spanish architect Gaudi, such as his famous Casa Batllo, created in a mosaic with bright colors and unique shapes. The tour will lead you to a remarkable rooftop view from La Pedrera, Gaudi's renowned architectural accomplishment, which is in the most chic area of the city. Once you have finished exploring the world of Gaudi and worked up an appetite, we will stop into a grand and fashionable gourmet chocolate boutique to sample the city's finest. Many of these chocolate recipes were created by Albert Adria, the dessert chef of famous restaurant El Bulli, and the brother of the most famous chef in Spain, Ferran Adria.
This evening you will be free to discover the Barcelona night life, perhaps with a visit to La Rambla or the fashionable Born District. Your tour guide is ready with many suggestions!
This morning, your chauffeur will be awaiting you in a luxury vehicle and you will commence your drive to the vineyards of Penedés to make a private visit to a small but prestigious winery. This family owned vineyard is situated in the foothills and is well known for cultivating xarello, syrah and chardonnay varieties of grapes. This exceptional vineyard is situated in rocky terrain and is covered in aromatic shrubs and low bushes. The grapes here are all hand picked to ensure harvest at the ideal time for each vine. Back at the cellar, you will be guided through your tasting experience by one of the in-house oenologists, and have the opportunity to taste an array of ecological and organic varieties of both wines and cavas.
For lunch we will visit a unique local restaurant in a villa nestled in the foothills that provides splendid views of the famous Montserrat Mountain. The charming owners - Teresa and her husband Matias, the chef - will make you feel at home as they serve you elaborate and delicious dishes with exceptional presentation, paired with fine wines from the surrounding vineyards, in a formal dining room setting. And remember to save room, for dessert is not to be missed at this restaurant!
After lunch you will continue your journey to make a private visit to a cava cellar known worldwide and one of the most important vineyards in the Penedes Region. The modernist style cellar was designed by the famous architect Puig i Cadafalch at the turn of the 20th century. The first quality sparkling Spanish wines were made there using the traditional method of making Champagne, but with a blend of the classic Penedes regional grape varieties of Macabeo, Xarel·lo, Parellada. You will enjoy a private visit to the vineyard and cellar with a bilingual in-house expert, which will end with a complete tasting of the very best cavas and wines.
The rest of the afternoon and evening are free for you to explore all the city of Barcelona and the region has to offer.
Our tour concludes with a lovely breakfast at your hotel, followed by a chauffeured transfer to Barcelona Airport for your departure. We hope you will join us for this unforgettable experience!
