A more than memorable day of Jewish Heritage in Northern Spain with private guided visits to the wonderful city of Girona and the medieval village of Besalu. See the Jewish Museum in Girona and its magnificent collection of lapidiary tombstones; the Call with its twisting narrow streets which gives a breath of ancient times. Visit the Mikveh in Besalu - a lasting memory of times passed but not forgotten.
This morning you are off to Toledo for the day. On arrival, your local guide will be waiting for you and will lead you on a visit to the Synagogue of Santa Maria La Blanca. Remains of the Jewish community are still preserved in the city in the synagogues of Santa María la Blanca and El Tránsito. Nowadays, this Jewish place of worship houses the Sephardic Museum, in which an interesting collection of pieces of art and various objects used in Jewish ceremonies are exhibited. In addition you will visit the Cathedral, which is one of the most outstanding buildings in the city and is considered to be one of the high points of Gothic art. On its main facade the outstanding feature is the doorway, made up of three doors: Infierno (Hell), Perdón (Forgiveness) and Juicio (Judgement).

Jews formed a part of Cordoba's cultural mix from as early as the 2nd Century until their expulsion from Spain in 1492.
You will traverse the city on a gourmet walking tour through the Gothic quarter of Barcelona! The Gothic Quarter is considered the heart of Barcelona and home to an abundance of tucked away gourmet cafes and shops. You will visit the old Jewish areas of Barcelona; A Jewish community settled in the Barri Gotic from the 2nd century onwards in the area now called El Call close to Plaça St. Jaume and Calle Ferran. A medieval synagogue, discovered beneath a 17th century building at the corner of Sant Domenec and Marlet, has been restored and opened to the public.
This unforgettable day-long tour includes a visit to the city's most talked about marketplace, La Boqueria, a gourmet cooking class with a Spanish chef and a delicious 3-course meal - and that's only in the morning! In the afternoon, you will discover the heart of the old city, the Gothic Quarter, and marvel at its architecture and history. On a gourmet walking tour of this district, you will try fresh local cheeses, wines, dried fruits, nuts and a regional favorite, chocolate con churros. Though you could not possibly see everything Barcelona has to offer in a day, you will see more than enough to start planning your return trip before you even leave this magnificent city!
On today's food & wine adventure you will head to the Perelada Winery in the Emporda Region, a 1h 30 min. drive from Barcelona. There, the house wine expert will await you and together you will make a complete visit to this famous cellar, with a long tradition of wine making, initiated by Carmelite monks in the 14th century. Your visit will start with a stroll along the beautiful vineyards, where our expert will show you the local vine and soil types and describe the unique factors of Catalan geography contributing to the development of Emporda wines.You will visit the cellar and learn about the wine making techniques; afterwards you will cross the lane to a 13th century Romanesque Castle, which is home to an ancient wine press and current wine making facilities.
At Gourmand Breaks we pride ourselves at knowing where the hidden gems are; we know all the best rated Penedes cellars and will take you there - small family run places where you will be attended personally by the owners, who will share their knowledge with you. We choose wineries that though small, are highly rated by the international wine critics, and you will be able to find their wines in some of the best-specialized wine stores back home. In our morning visit to Penedes, depending on your preferences, we will take you to a couple of our favorite cellars, where, of course, you will be able to enjoy a complete tasting of the winery's best and the family expert will be there to assist you. Together you will have a stroll through their exceptional vineyard situated in the rocky terrain of the Penedes wine region, which is covered in aromatic shrubs and low bushes. The grapes in this vineyard are all hand picked to ensure harvest at the ideal time for each vine.
Tour some of the most precious wineries in the Priorat region. We do know the most interesting and highest rated Priorat cellars and are able to arrange private visits to small family run wineries where you will be personally assisted by the owners to share their knowledge. Although we have selected small Priorat wineries for our visits, they are still very highly rated by the international wine critics and you will be able to find their wines in some of the best specialized wine stores when you return home. During your day in Priorat you will visit two wineries, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon where, of course, you will be able to enjoy a complete tasting of the winery's best and the family expert will be there to assist you. In between the two visits you will relax with a delicious lunch paired with some of the Priorat wines you have already tasted.
The morning of your one-day foray into Catalonia starts with a guided transfer from Barcelona to the Emporda Region and following a tour of a very fine winery and a sampling of their best wines, your day will continue to a romantic and picturesque medieval village! As you walk through the narrow village streets, next to the city walls, towers and churches, you will feel as though you have walked into a new time altogether. The stone archways, cobblestone streets, and wrought balconies adorned with flowers create a welcoming feel in this Romanesque village. Your special day continues with a sampling of goats cheeses at a local producer; a typical Catalan luncheon with wine and finally, a visit to the gorgeous and unspoiled seaside village of Calella de Palafrugell.
On today's adventure you will head to Figueres in the Emporda Region, a 2 hour train journey from Barcelona. On arrival you will be met by our Official Licensed Guide and will take a taxi to our cooking school where you will have a private lesson with a local chef, followed by lunch with wines of all the food which has been prepared. Our Guide will join you for the lesson to translate, after which he/she will lead you on a private tour of the Dali Museum. Afterwards you have free time to discover Figueres and even perhaps to visit the Toy Museum, prior to catching your train back to Barcelona.
