Priorat Wine Day Tour
The Priorat region is famous for its mineral-rich soil, slate (called licorella by the locals), which creates a unique humidity for the vines. This soil and the little rain that comes while the grapes are maturing results in full ripeness of the grape. This creates a wine with high graduation that has more than 14% alcohol content. The wines of this region are unique for their great expression of fruit and all of the vineyards are planted on mountain terraces or on a steep incline.
In your luxury private visit to Priorat, depending on your preferences, we will take you to a couple of our favorite cellars. The particular family-owned wine cellar we recommend, was awarded one of Robert Parker’s highest ratings and he regards it as one of his favorite vineyards. Perhaps this will be one of your favorites too after a complete visit to their first class premises. When you arrive, the in-house expert will be there to greet you and to show you the finest vineyards and their impressive cellar, afterwards you will enjoy a personalized tasting of their top vintages.
Your gracious hosts at the vineyard and cellars also own a small restaurant in the heart of the nearby village. This is where you will round off your visit with delicious local cuisine paired with your newly discovered favorite Spanish wines.
The wine cellar you will visit this afternoon also has a long tradition of wine making, dating from the XIX century. The present generation, formed by the husband and wife team have specialized in the production of quality organic wines. It is located within the municipal boundaries of Poboleda at Mas Sinén, a stone building dating from the XVII century, surrounded by the family vines. These vines grow at an altitude of between 300-500m, cultivated in terraces and on slopes, with a total area of 15 hectares. The wines are produced under the control of the Consell Català de la Producció Agrària Ecològica (The Catalan Organically Grown Produce Council). Artisan methods have been used to produce these wines, though new technologies are also used to achieve a high-quality product. You will be shown around the finest vineyards by the charming owners, after which you will enjoy a complete tasting of their top vintages.
