Secret Barcelona Gourmet Day Tour

Secret Barcelona Gourmet Day Tour

This tour is perfect for discerning foodies, who would like to enjoy a day of tasting Barcelona’s best. The journey will focus on the authentic gourmet foods in Spain and Catalan Cuisine, but will pass by a few architectural feats as well. You will start with a guided visit to La Boqueria market, Spain’s largest marketplace. La Boqueria is like a museum of the brightest, most curious and delectable foods Europe has to offer. In any season you can lose yourself in a more than 800 year-old wonderland of fruit, vegetables, meats, seafood, bread and desserts. But be warned: It may take a long time before deciding exactly where to concentrate your taste buds. Because of Barcelona’s accessible ports and proximity to fertile farmlands, a market like La Boqueria is able to offer gourmands a wide variety of olive oils, mushrooms, and seafood from its vendors to you, the customer!

Our expert culinary guide will lead you around the best booths and you will taste some of the best local seasonal produce at one famous La Boqueria bar, frequented by celebrities. A glass of a fine brut nature cava will surely feel good with a tapa of Chantrelle mushrooms, or fresh cockles, squid or maybe even scrambled eggs with wild asparagus. Then you will take the path of Picasso on the famous Avignon Street, and visit the Picasso museum while enjoying fascinating anecdotes from our wonderful guide. After this short artistic excursion, you will enjoy a taste of some of the best Spanish cheeses at a charming local cheese shop paired with some excellent Priorat wine. You will be able to judge for yourself why the Tou de Tilers, Cabrales or Mahon cheeses are so appreciated by the locals.

You will then have a break at one of the most authentic tapas restaurants in Barcelona, where you will taste a wide array of delicious Spanish tapas. Your expert guide will gladly share with you each tapas' ingredients and their origins. Your tapas could range from stuffed piquillo peppers, cod omelette, Iberian ham pincho or even white anchovies. A good local wine will accompany your informal gourmand meal.

For something sweet, you will stop at the oldest venue in Barcelona for refreshments, as well as dried nuts and fruits, such as hazelnuts from Lleida, almonds from Tarragona, homemade nougats and chocolates, accompanied by sweet Mistela wine. This quaint and local store, specializing in roasting coffee beans and nuts for over 150 years, is still decorated with its original furniture and old wood-burning stove. The Secret Gourmand Route will be rounded off by a tasting of delicious chocolate con churros in a charming local cafe, and one of the best places in Barcelona to try this local delicacy.
