Priorat Wine Day-Tour
We are delighted that here at Gourmand Breaks we have found some of the most precious wineries in the Priorat region. We do know the most interesting and highest rated Priorat cellars and are able to arrange visits to small family run wineries where you will be personally assisted by the owners to share their knowledge. Although we have selected small wineries for our visits, they are still very highly rated by the international wine critics and you will be able to find their wines in some of the best specialized wine stores when you return home. During your day you will visit two wineries, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon where, of course, you will be able to enjoy a complete tasting of the winery's best and the family expert will be there to assist you. In between the two visits you will relax with a delicious lunch paired with some of the Priorat wines you have already tasted.
The Priorat region is famous for its mineral-rich soil, slate (called licorella by the locals), which creates a unique humidity for the vines. This soil and the little rain that comes while the grapes are maturing results in full ripeness of the grape. This creates a wine with high graduation that has more than 14% alcohol content. The wines of this region are unique for their great expression of fruit and all of the vineyards are planted on mountain terraces or on a steep incline.
In our morning visit to Priorat, depending on your preferences, we will take you to a couple of our favorite cellars. The particular family-owned wine cellar we recommend, was awarded one of Robert Parker’s highest ratings and he regards it as one of his favorite vineyards. Perhaps this will be one of your favorites too after a complete visit to their first class premises. When you arrive, the in-house expert will be there to greet you and to show you the finest vineyards and their impressive cellar, afterwards you will enjoy a personalized tasting of their top vintages.
Your gracious hosts at the vineyard and cellars also own a small restaurant in the heart of the nearby village. This is where you will round off your visit with delicious local cuisine paired with your newly discovered favorite Spanish wines.
Awaiting you after lunch is a vineyard, which has more than a 1,000-year wine making tradition dating back to the Carthusian monks! This site, situated at the foot of the Montsant mountain range, is where the Priorat region’s winemaking tradition originated. Relax and enjoy sipping one of the slow fermented and long matured fine wines in the scenic countryside village.
We hope you join us for this unforgettable day!
