You will start your vacation with airport pickup and chauffeured transport to check in to a charming hotel overlooking the Mediterranean. A fruit and chocolate basket will be waiting for you in your room as a welcome gift to Spain! You will meet your guide and share a welcome cocktail where you will receive an itinerary of your personalized tour, a map and plenty of suggestions of restaurants and activities for free time. This evening you will settle into the hotel, which is situated on a hill surrounded by trees and beautiful gardens overlooking the coves and village just below. You will have time to explore the scenic walkways with beaches strewn about, or sip a drink on the hotel terrace while surrounded by panoramic views. Enjoy a light dinner at the hotel's fine restaurant as you gaze at the magnificent Mediterranean sunset .
After breakfast at your lovely inn, you will have the morning free to explore two of the most exclusive beaches on the Costa Brava - Calella de Palafrugell and Llafranc - where Barcelona's fashionable spend their weekends. You will have ample opportunities to walk along the pristine seashore, take in the sun from a patio, or a drink in the Mediterranean breeze. Enjoy a delicious lunch at your leisure at one of the many fine restaurants here on the coast abounding with local produce and products in the countryside locale.
Your guide will collect you in the afternoon and together you will visit the Dali Theatre-Museum in Figueres, also known as the world's largest surrealist object, where you will have the opportunity to view many of his most famous masterpieces. The great artist purchased the museum building and personally oversaw the reconstruction and renovation. Now restored in a style appealing to Dali, it is home to some of his greatest works of surrealism.
This evening you will be the guest of a local Catalan chef inviting you into his cooking school. As the wine flows, the chef will demonstrate the culinary techniques used to create some of the staple dishes of the Mediterranean diet, which are most likely to include Catalan style lobster or red prawns from Palamos. Whatever local specialty tempts you most - fideua, seafood paella, suquet, Catalan creme - will make up your meal. And we don't believe any meal is complete without wine and dessert!
To start our morning, we will head inland to Girona. In this old town, you will discover their magnificent cathedral, with the widest Gothic nave in all of Europe. You can meander through the famed Jewish Quarter, the Call, where each winding narrow street brings quaint and specialized shops to discover. Along with the Christian and Jewish influences on the city, the Arab influence is still evident today in the architecture of the old Arab baths of the 12th century.
This afternoon's lunch will be at a 2-star Michelin restaurant owned by three Spanish brothers. The gastronomic tasting menu will provide a wide variety of the best Spanish products offered for an authentic experience with fine Mediterranean cuisine. The enthusiasm and creativity of Chef Joan is matched by sommelier Josep’s expertise in pairing the perfect wines with your dinner, and is complemented by the third brother, Jordi’s, delightful desserts.
After your unforgettable lunch, you have the afternoon free to spend how you would like. We recommend walking the cobbletsone streets of Girona for some wonderful shopping, a venture to Calella for a seaside walk, or a return to your seaside hotel for a relaxing afternoon. Perhaps you will take tea on the terrace, meditate before the breathtaking views surrounding the hotel or explore the beaches below. For this evening's dinner, we offer suggestions of the best restaurants on the coast.
Our tour concludes with a lovely breakfast at your seaside hotel, followed by a chauffeured transfer to Barcelona for your departure.
We hope you join us for this unforgettable experience!
