You will start your vacation with airport pickup and chauffeured transport to check in to a modern and posh hotel situated in the heart of Barcelona’s Passeig de Gracia in the Eixample area. A fruit and chocolate basket will be waiting in your room to welcome you to Spain! At the hotel you will meet your guide and share a welcome cocktail where you will receive an itinerary of your personalized tour, a map and plenty of suggestions of restaurants and activities for free time. This evening you have free to settle into the hotel and we recommend dinner at the hotel’s restaurant.
The day starts with a visit to the famous marketplace, La Boqueria, one of the most important and lively market places in the world because of its unmatched variety of fresh produce from all over Spain. Your chef will accompany you to the marketplace as you pick out the ingredients to use in your avant-garde cooking lesson. He will answer any questions you have about the array of products you see before you. With fresh ingredients procured, you will spend the morning in the chef's cooking school learning techniques widely employed in Spanish dishes and how to prepare an authentic and sumptuous Spanish lunch! You can participate in the chef’s preparations or, if you prefer, you can sit back with a drink and enjoy his artful work. Lunch surely will not be complete without a famous dessert like Catalan creme or another local favorite.
This afternoon is free for you to relax at your hotel or to explore the surrounding neighborhoods of Barcelona. Your guide, as always, is available to provide you with suggestions or to accompany you if you would like. We recommend that tonight you have an earlier evening in preparation for tomorrow’s early morning visit. And we’re not kidding around about the early morning!
The old adage that the early bird catches the worm proves true today, but in our case, the early vendor catches the fish! You will leave your hotel before daybreak to visit a one-of-a-kind market for suppliers of fish, fruit, flowers, vegetables and everything else freshly imported to the eclectic metropolitan city that is Barcelona. This market provides all of Barcelona’s finest restaurants with fresh products everyday. You will see they start very early to prepare your dinner! After sampling the products you just watched the suppliers unload at a decidedly authentic breakfast counter, you will have a greater appreciation for the fusion of the most stylish food enjoyed in an otherwise grunge and alternative setting.
After this early morning market excursion, you have free time to recover with a siesta or to explore the amenities afforded by your 4-star hotel.
After a relaxing interlude, the evening brings an avant-garde cooking demonstration in the Barceloneta neighborhood. The ground level of the restaurant has a laidback feel, while the restaurant upstairs celebrates all that is stylish and elegant. The second floor has modern ambience and arrangement, with the tables numbering only in single digits and the kitchen is the central focus in the center of the room. You will enjoy the demonstration as the chefs prepare your dinner before your eyes. At this Michelin starred restaurant, awarded for the highest quality and purity in the food’s taste, you will appreciate the modern cuisine along with the pointers learned from the acclaimed chef.
This morning you will take a gourmet walking tour of Barcelona’s finest foods, as your guide points out the contrast of the city’s modernity in the centuries old Gothic Quarter. You will visit the city’s undisputed best delicatessen to sample Spain’s finest ham, Joselito, along with a selection of exquisite Spanish wine.
Then you will head to an exquisite chocolate shop, opened by the brother of Spain’s famed chef, Ferran Adria. Here you will taste some of the finest chocolates around, from classic chocolates to imaginative chocolate combinations pairing bonbons with anchovies, chocolate with olive oil and other surprisingly delightful and innovative ways of serving the delicious dessert. Tell your taste buds to be brave and prepare to be delighted by these modern combinations. This afternoon will be free to spend as you choose, perhaps exploring the city's shops or returning to the lively old Gothic Quarter.
Dinner tonight will be cooked by Chef Santí Santamaria at El Racó de Can Fabes, a restaurant one New York Times review calls "one of the greatest restaurants in Spain." The restaurant is a short drive from Barcelona to a small Catalan village in an 18th century country villa. You will dine in luxury and style at this 3-star Michelin restaurant, in a setting that still maintains the rustic feel of the countryside. Try sumptuous dishes like hot and cold mackerel with cream of caviar or spicy foie gras with Sauterne and a puree of sweet red and green peppers.
Our tour concludes with a lovely breakfast at your fashionable hotel, followed by a chauffeured transfer for your departure.
We hope you join us for this unforgettable experience!
