You will start your vacation with airport pickup and chauffeured transport to check-in to a modern and posh hotel, with the façade of classic Spanish architecture, situated in the heart of Barcelona's Passeig de Gracia. A fruit and chocolate basket will be waiting in your room to welcome you! You will meet your guide and share a welcome cocktail where you will receive an itinerary of your personalized tour, a map, and plenty of suggestions of restaurants and activities for free time. Your might want to settle into your lovely hotel on your first night in Barcelona. We have several dinner recommendations of fine restaurants nearby.
This morning, you will meet your guide and a famous chef for a visit to La Boqueria, Spain’s most influential marketplace, because it offers the freshest and most diverse selection of produce from all over Europe. During the tour of the market, you will sample a few of the offerings and, with the help of your chef, select the products that you will use in your cooking class. You and your chef will use only the finest ingredients from La Boqueria for a gourmet cooking lesson at a prestigious cooking school, to prepare your delicious 3-course Spanish meal. Sit back and relax with a glass of wine or tie on your apron to help. Either way, you will enjoy the chef's cooking from aperitif to dessert as you learn the secrets to traditional Spanish dishes such as seafood paella and Catalan creme.
After a sumptuous lunch, you will go to the Passeig de Gracia for a walking tour of the fanciful works of Spanish architect Gaudi and visit his famous Casa Batllo, created in a mosaic with bright colors and unique shapes. The tour will lead you to a remarkable rooftop view from La Pedrera, Gaudi's renowned architectural accomplishment, which is in the most chic area of the city. Once you have finished exploring the world of Gaudi and worked up an appetite, we will stop into a grand and fashionable gourmet chocolate boutique to sample the city's finest. Many of these chocolate recipes were created by Albert Adria, the dessert chef of famous restaurant El Bulli, and the brother of the most famous chef in Spain, Ferran Adria.
This evening you will be free to discover the Barcelona night life, perhaps with a visit to La Rambla or the fashionable Born District. Your tour guide is ready with many suggestions!
After breakfast, you will visit Codorniu, a cava cellar known worldwide and one of the most important vineyards in the Penedes Region. The modernist style cellar was designed by the famous architect Puig i Cadafalch at the turn of the 20th century. The first quality sparkling Spanish wines were made there using the traditional method of making Champagne, but with a blend of the classic Penedes regional grape varieties of Macabeo, Xarel·lo, Parellada. You will enjoy the beautiful gardens and grounds, as well as the extensive underground stone cellars and several private tastings!
For lunch we will visit a unique local restaurant in a villa nestled in the foothills that provides splendid views of the famous Montserrat Mountain. The charming owners--Teresa and her husband Matias, the chef--will make you feel at home as they serve you elaborate and delicious dishes with exceptional presentation, paired with fine wines from the surrounding vineyards, in a formal dining room setting. And remember to save room, for dessert is not to be missed at this restaurant!
The rest of the afternoon and evening are free for you to explore all the city of Barcelona has to offer. Both your guide and chauffeur are at your disposal if you would like. Choose between the multiple activities and routes we offer, so you are sure to see the attractions and spend your vacation in the best possible way for you! Perhaps you would like the guide to escort you to an illuminated night view of Sagrada Familia and recommend a fine dining venue nearby? Rest assured that we will do everything we can to make sure each individual customer's needs and desires have been met.
Our tour concludes with a lovely breakfast at your hotel, followed by a transfer to Barcelona for your departure. We hope you will join us for this unforgettable experience!
