Spanish Wineries By Region

In the north of the region of Alt Camp at an altitude of 500 meters, one comes across the cellar of Mas Vicenç, in the village of Cabra del Camp, which borders on the Conca de Barberá and Penedés DO’s. The altitude, the type of soils and the climate give a special maturity to the grapes in this region.. Mas Vicenç’s history goes back through five generations of wine-growing tradition. Today’s owner of the vineyard is Vicenç Ferré Morató, who was born in 1983 in Cabra del Camp and as the son of a family dedicated to the culture of the vineyard, he commenced his wine education at a very young age. In 1999 he commenced studying at the Enology School of Falset, in Priorat. During his years of study, he tested his knowledge by being employed at the Cooperative of Falset-Marçà (DO. Montsant), in Cellars Fuentes (D.O Priorat) and in Concavins (D.O Conca de Barberà). After completing his degree, Vincenç continued his career by living and working for nine months at Chateauneuf-du-Pape, under the tutelage of the revolutionary winemaker Michel Tardieu. In May, 2004, at only 21 years, he begin to manage the prestigious cellar Mas Alta, in Priorat and only one year later decided to combine the direction of this cellar with the beginning of his own project, Mas Vicenç in Cabra del Camp. In 2009, he left the Priorat to dedicate all his time to his own cellar, in which he has developed his creativity and puts into practice his experience. This decision to embark on his own project made him very deserving of the Special Prize ‘Young Enterprisor of 2009’ granted by the Cambra de Comerç i Indústria de Valls. As you may expect, the wines of this cellar are certainly showing promise – Mas Vincenç Red Crianza 2008 has a ruby red colour with light purple rims, an elegant nose of cherry, vanilla and spice, in a base of toasted coffee. Its palate is fresh and voluminous with hints of red fruits in a balsamic finish. This is a very round and especially soft wine.
