DAY 2 GIRONA & BESALU
This morning after breakfast at your hotel, your chauffeur will be waiting and you will leave to visit the romantic city of Girona and the bewitching town of Besalu.
You will meet with your Officially Licensed Guide in Besalu and commence a private guided tour of this very fascinating medieval village, renowned for its beauty and 11th century Roman bridge that once was necessary to adjoin this small village to land. The local public gardens await you where villagers grow herbs for their well-known and traditional homemade wine, ratafia. The different families of Besalu have variations of this sweet wine and use their own secret combination of aromatic herbs to flavor this digestive liquor. You will certainly discover your own favorite ratafia! There will also be time to visit the ruins of the Jewish quarter of Besalu, dating back to the 9th century and the well-preserved Jewish baths, traditionally used for purification, dating back to the 12th century.
Next, together with your chauffeur and private guide, you will head to the city of Girona to enjoy a private guided tour of this enchanting city. Your private guide will show off its stretches of cobblestone streets, the old Jewish Quarter and Jewish History Museum and its luscious gardens, the Arab baths and the magnificent Girona Cathedral affording a great view of the area. You will wind through the narrow streets and stoned walls of the old Gothic Quarter and encounter little shops, cafes and medieval homes that families have passed down through the generations. Girona is a Little City with a Big Heart and you will soon feel at home in its inviting embrace.
After working up an appetite, your local guide will provide you with many top insider suggestions for a delicious lunch.
Before heading back to your hotel you will have free time to ramble through the streets of Girona to visit the quaint shops and artisan retailers.
In a Nutshell: Private Guided visit to Besalu and Girona, Overnight in the Girona Countryside
DAY 3 PERALADA
This morning after a lovely breakfast, your chauffeur will be waiting to drive you through hills and mountains smothered in verdant pine, until eventually you arrive at a very special winery. Nothing less than great wine is the goal of this winery owner and his team. Implanted on a plateau embellished with hillocks, lying long and low with the mauve Pyrenees high above, is the raw concrete bodega designed by the Spanish architects Pepe Cortes and Nacho Ferrer. It is recently built, but in time will surely hide itself entirely in its natural surroundings. You will have a full tour of the ecologically run vineyards and winery with the bi-lingual in-house Wine specialist, followed by a tasting of their fine wines, which have gained a fabulous reputation having resided on the Wine Lists of more than one Michelin 3 starred restaurant!
To follow you will take a lazy short walk through the vineyards to the picnic area, where you can put your feet up and lounge in the shade of the tall trees on the sun beds provided. (NB: Should the weather not be sufficiently clement, the picnic will be held in the very attractive tasting room at the winery). Having selected the wine of your choice beforehand, everything will be delivered to you at the picnic area - local artisan cheese, ham, pate, tomato, grapes, bread, etc., a delicious country fare feast for two. With the sun filtering through the tree tops, take time out to breathe in the fresh mountain air as you sip your delicious coffee at the end of a truly relaxed picnic.
This afternoon you will be visiting your hotel winery which has a rich wine making history, dating back to the 14th century. A wine expert will describe the unique factors of Catalan geography contributing to the development of these wines. Their finest cava is still fermented with the same process and in the same location in which the Carmelite monks of the 14th century used to prepare it at their monastery. You will see both an ancient wine press and the current wine and cava making facilities, in the 13th century castle of Peralada.

DAY 4 CADAQUES
After a delightful breakfast at your hotel, your chauffeur will be waiting to transfer you to your next hotel, but first the picturesque fisherman's village of Cadaques awaits you! This town is known for its breathtaking beauty and history of famous Bohemian artists, including Dali. You will notice the artistic influence on this town as it is apparent in the lingering feel of the laidback and creative atmosphere.
You will visit the summer seaside home of Dali, complete with his works and arrangement of rooms, where you can have a glimpse into his life. Next, you will follow in his footsteps as you dine on a delightful lunch in one of the charming local haunts of the artist. The fresh fish and seafood of this seaside village will be enjoyed in the same places the locals enjoy it. You will experience the atmosphere of this town in an authentic way as you try a few of the locals favorite seafood dishes.
After lunch you will then head to your new home for the next 2 nights - an authentic Spanish medieval castle, converted into a charming 4* hotel, an architectural jewel that was built eight centuries ago. This afternoon take the time to get acquainted with the grounds of the castle, exploring the hundred-year-old forest and a splendid olive orchard surrounding the hotel, overlooking the hills of the picturesque Emporda countryside, and enjoying all the amenities of your fairy tale residence before enjoying a romantic dinner by candlelight.

DAY 5 EMPORDA
Today, after breakfast at your lovely Mediterranean retreat, your private chauffeur will be waiting and you will leave to visit some typical Emporda villages and one of the best-preserved medieval villages in all of Spain, Pals.
As you walk through the narrow village streets of Pals, next to the city walls, towers and churches, you will feel as though you have stepped back in time. The stone archways, cobblestone streets and wrought balconies adorned with flowers create a welcoming feel in this Romanesque village. To continue, you will visit another Medieval village, a totally unspoiled hideaway, home to ancient Iberian archaeological remains and a 9th century medieval church. Continuing your Medieval morning, you will head to another nearby village where as you stroll along its cobbled streets you will surely imagine what life was like in the Olde Worlde days - a very special village indeed. Your "medieval journey" continues to another close (and of course medieval!) village, where you are booked for a delicious lunch of local Catalan country fare with Emporda wine, at an authentic stone farmhouse that has been converted into a delightful restaurant. Take your time over lunch, it is a casual affair in the medieval villages!
After such a delicious lunch your chauffeur will take you to the coast and to a lighthouse looking over the Mediterranean where you will surely enjoy a coffee while taking in the impressive views before you. Then heading down the hill you will arrive to the picturesque chic Costa Brava villages. Picture-postcard villages that offer breathtaking views of the azul blue Mediterranean; beachfront cafes and inviting walkways. There are kilometers of clifftop paths to appreciate why Costa Brava translates as Wild Coast. With free time here you can stroll along the scenic seaside, discovering hidden coves and breathe in the fresh air whilst you gaze far out to sea, the sun sparkling on the small crested waves. While in this area you may like to visit the romantic cliff top Botanical Garden, a delight to wander around with its many species and magnificent setting.
After a truly interesting exploration day your chauffeur will return you to your country retreat where you may wish to relax by the pool, take a stroll out into the surrounding area or sip a glass of cava on the terrace. This evening you could enjoy the delicious offerings at the hotel restaurant - maybe start with a pica pica - a selection of small portions of local delicacies such as seafood and Iberian ham, then follow with the excellent local fish and the famous house pear tatin dessert.
