In the luxury vehicle you will then be driven to your 5* luxury Wine & Spa Hotel in Peralada, a town famous for its castle and vineyards. The fascinating Catalan medieval village of Besalu is renowned for its stunning bridge and Jewish mikvah. Besalu villagers grow herbs in the quaint local public gardens, the key ingredients for their well-known and traditional homemade wine, ratafia. Most Besalu families have been jealously keeping for generations their own secret combination of aromatic herbs to flavor this digestive liquor. Next you will head to the enchanting city of Girona. Your private guide will show off its stretches of cobblestone streets, the old Jewish Quarter, the Arab baths and the magnificent Girona Cathedral. Our chauffeur will await you this morning, to drive you through hills covered in verdant pine, until you arrive at a very special winery. Nothing less than great wine is the goal of this winery owner and his team. You will have a full tour of the ecologically run vineyards and at the winery have a tasting of their wines; several of which have gained a reputation being on the wine lists of many Michelin 3 starred restaurants! Following the tour you will take a stroll through the vineyards to the picnic area, where you can put your feet up and lounge in the shade of the tall trees on the sun beds provided. (NB: Should the weather not be sufficiently clement, the picnic will be held in the very attractive tasting room at the winery). Having selected the wine of your choice beforehand, everything will be delivered to you at the picnic area – local artisan cheese, ham, pate, tomato, grapes, bread, etc., a delicious country fare feast for two. This afternoon you will be visiting your hotel’s winery which has a rich wine making history, dating back to the 14th century. A wine expert will describe the unique factors of Catalan geography contributing to the development of these wines. Their finest cava is still fermented with the same process and in the same location in which the Carmelite monks of the 14th century used to prepare it at their monastery. You will see both an ancient wine press and the current wine and cava making facilities, in the 13th century castle of Peralada.

This morning your Romantic Costa Brava Luxury Food & Wine Tour chauffeur will be waiting to transfer you to your next hotel, but on the way you will first visit the picturesque fisherman’s village of Cadaques, a truly romantic Spanish village. Crossing through the natural park of Cap de Creus, you can be mesmerized by the natural beauty of the area as you head down the mountain towards the Mediterannean ocean, and Cadaques. This secluded seaside Spanish town is known for its breathtaking beauty and history of famous Bohemian artists, including the master of Surrealism; Salvador Dali. You will notice the town’s artistic flair and laidback, creative atmosphere. You will visit the summer seaside home of Dali, complete with his works, where you can have a glimpse into his life.
