The World’s 50 Best (well, the Top 100) Restaurants 2018 have now been released and Spain and Portugal occupy 14 places in the Top 100 World’s Best Restaurants – 7 in the 1-50 List and 7 in the 51-100 List!

The New World’s Best Restaurants 2017 (Full List) has been now been presented and the Top Spots for 2017  have been claimed by:

  • Eleven Madison Park, New York, USA, at Number 1
  • Osteria Francescana, Modena, Italy, at Number 2
  • El Celler de Can Roca, Girona, Spain, at Number 3

 

 

Eleven Madison Park climbed 2 places from last years Number 3 to become the Worlds Best Restaurant for 2017, while Osteria Francescana and El Celler de Can Roca both fell 1 place to their current places of 2 and 3 respectively.

 

It seems that Spain and Portugal had a bit of a roller coaster ride in the Worlds Best Restaurants List for 2017, with some climbing, some falling, some appearing and others disappearing! There is, however, still a strong Iberian presence in the acclaimed Restaurant Magazine’s world famous List and here’s what happened and where everyone stands for the Worlds Best Restaurants List for 2017:

A small bar in the Spanish city of San Sebastian may just be home to the World’s Best Cheesecake!!!

We all know that the Basque Country is a gastronomic paradise and San Sebastian is a foodie mecca. Therefore, it’s no surprise that we hear our guests “oooh” and “ahhh” over devilish pintxos and delicious desserts as their journeys take them to the North of Spain.

If you’ve been to San Sebastian, or are dreaming of going, why not try this spectacular, yet simple, cheesecake recipe at home to excite your taste-buds.

Ingredients for La Vina’s Famous Cheesecake Recipe

  • Butter, softened, for greasing tin
  • 7 whole eggs
  • 1kg Philadelphia cream cheese
  • 400g castor sugar
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 500ml cream

 

Method for La Vina’s Famous Cheesecake Recipe

  • Preheat the oven to 220C.
  • Lightly grease a 25cm springform tin with butter.
  • Line the bottom and sides of tin with baking paper; allow the paper to come 2-3cm above the edge of the sides.
  • Using a pastry brush, grease the paper with softened butter.
  • Crack the eggs into a bowl and mix well.
  • Using an electric mixer, work cream cheese until smooth.
  • Add the beaten eggs slowly; making sure each egg is incorporated into the cheese before adding more.
  • Pour in sugar, flour and cream.
  • Blend well until smooth.
  • Pour mixture into the lined cake tin.
  • Bake for 50 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and allow to cool completely in the tin before taking out of the tin.

The 64th San Sebastian Film Festival will be held from the 16th to the 24th of September 2016, with national and international actors, directors etc representing their films.

Since 1986 the Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award has been included and is presented to a great film personality  in recognition of their work and career – some years there have been more than one! (see below)

The first Donostia Award was presented to Gregory Peck in 1986, and, since then, many a Hollywood star has graced the San Sebastian Film Festival!

Sigourney Weaver and Ethan Hawke will receive the honorary award for 2016!!

Sigourney Wever will receive her Donostia award on September 21st, in the Kursaal Auditorium.  The date, not surprisingly, coincides with the gala screening of the European premiere of the latest movie by J.A. Bayona, “A Monster Calls” in which Weaver stars, along side Liam Neeson among others.

 

Ethan Hawke will receive his Donostia Award on Saturday, September 17th followed by a screening of his latest film The magnificent seven.

The 2016 World’s 50 Best Restaurants List 1-50  was awarded at a grand ceremony in New York, on the 13th of June ! Next year, for the 2017 World’s 50 Best Restaurants List the ceremony moves to Melbourne, Australia!

Huge congratulations to the Spanish Restaurants who yet again feature strongly in the World’s Best Restaurants List. Occupying 10% of the prestigious World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2016 List, half of them climbed positions and half fell, but all 10 Spanish restaurants maintain their status in the Top 100 Restaurants of the World 2016 (7 in the Top 50, of which 3 are in the Top 10).

Portugal,  last year, had 2 entries in the 51-100 List but for the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2016 List just one stays. Congratulations to Belcanto in Lisbon, slowly but surely establishing its gastronomic offering by climbing up the charts.
